A metal detector device detects the presence of metal in the vicinity. Metal detectors locate metal inclusions hidden within objects or metal objects buried underground. Frequently comprised of a handheld unit with a sensor probe swept across the ground or other objects.
When the sensor comes into contact with a piece of metal, the earphones change tone or the needle on an indicator moves. The device indicates distance; the closer the metal is, the higher the tone in the earphone or the higher the needle goes.
