Cat 6 cable; a twisted pair cable, standardized for Ethernet and other network physical layers. Must meet stricter crosstalk and system noise specifications than Cat 5 and Cat 5e. The cable standard specifies performance of up to 250 MHz, compared to 100 MHz for Cat 5 and Cat 5e. When used for 10GBASE-T, it has a reduced maximum length of 55 metres (180 feet). Can be identified by the printing on the cable sheath’s side.Â
Jacks and connectors are not used with Cat 6 wiring. Category 6 conductors must be made of pure copper, according to the specification. Cat 6 patch cables are typically terminated in modular 8P8C connectors with T568A or T568B pin assignments.
